According to the Gospel, when asked by a scribe which was the most important commandment, Christ answered “The first is . . . ‘you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

 

We take this mandate to heart in what we think, feel, and do. 

 

As a matter of fact, we do not see two commandments, but rather believe that the love for our neighbor is a consequence of our love for God. And when we succeed in loving our neighbor truly and meaningfully, then God uses us in the establishment of God’s kingdom on earth. When we act, we do not do so because we have to, but quite simply because we can’t do otherwise.

 

So, what do we do?
